arcam fmj diva and solo |
Arcam are taking the AV world by storm at the moment. The Solo range continues to out-perform seperates systems of the same money, and indeed some which are more expensive! And the new improved fmj hi-fi range continues to win favour with reviewers and listeners alike.
The real joy though is the release of the AVR600 AV Receiver and the AV888 & P777 system, both of which we have on demonstration in our office for direct A-B comparison through our PMC speaker system. The AVR600 was an absolute revelation when it arrived in our offices a couple of months ago. Never before at this price-point had we heard such richly detailed HD audio with an almost invisible noise floor. The wide open surround stage literally removed the walls of our demo room and delivered enough power to drive our 3-way PMC speakers without looking like it was braking a sweat. This was of course until the AV888 and P777 system arrived.... As music or movie systems these will not be beaten for quite some time. Come down and find out how.

arcam fmj av888 & p777 |
Well it took long enough to get over the performance of the AVR600. But then last week two ominous boxes turned up on our doorstep. One sporting a rather impressive "DANGER - VERY HEAVY" sticker which turned out to be an accurate statement. Once I had returned from A&E I was able to see what all the fuss was about, the new fmj AV888 & P777 had arrived and I was forced to retract my earlier statement that nothing will ever impress me like the AVR600 has. The first thing to hit you is the truly limitless amount of power the P777 pushes through. The AVR600 has massive dynamics, but the P777 power amplifier just tears our room apart. And with the feed from the AV888 CD and DVD/Blu-Ray hasn't sounded so accurate in our room (or indeed in anybody elses!). This really is the best system I have ever heard and I'm assured there is potentially further to go in future firmware updates.

arcam avr600 |
It's here, it's in our demo room, and it has totally trounced the competition. Yep it's the Arcam AVR600 and it has totally raised the benchmark for what not only a £3,500 AV Receiver should be able to achieve, but what AV Receivers right up to the £6,000 should be able to do!!
First and foremost Arcam are an amplifier manufacturer. Pre and power amp stages of this unit are exceptionally well designed and built. There is plenty of power to run seven full-range speakers with still massive dynamics, a wide surround soundstage, and the clinical precision we have come to expect of Arcam. However what we haven't been used to seeing with Arcam is this much technology also under the hood. For us it is our first experience of Dolby Volume processing and I must say it is something I now cannot live without! Arcam with Room EQ too? Unheard of until now. And topping it off Pixelworks video deinterlacing scaling to 1080p HDMI, and a fantastic HDMI audio re-clocking system for razor-sharp audio performance. Congratulations Arcam, you've done it again!

arcam solo movie 5.1 & movie 2.1 |
A rare beast this, an all-in-one DVD/CD/SACD/DVD-A/DAB/FM solution that actually sounds like a hi-fi seperates system! The Solo Movie comes in two flavours, 2.1 and 5.1 depending on how many amps you need and thus speakers you will have. The 5.1 is highly recommended since you can bi-amp your speakers or run zone 2 speakers if you did not want to setup a full 5.1 system. 1080i DVD playback and an integrated HDMI switch for your Sky HD for example. Very easy, very high quality system. |

arcam solo music |
The original Solo product and still a cracking sounding CD player with DAB and FM tuners. 2 x 50wpc amplifiers make sure this little cutie is capable of driving quite a significant pair of speakers indeed! |

|
arcam solo mini |
The sexiest thing to come out of Cambridge since, well let's just say it's the sexiest thing to come out of Cambridge ever! The Solo Mini is a positive head turner with a surprising amount of performance from it's comparatively low power rating of 20 watts per channel. Again DAB and FM tuner, and cracking audio quality from external sources or the internal CD drive. |

|
arcam rdock |
Quite simply the best iPod dock available today. Excellent quality DACs, video output for video iPods, and Arcam's relatively simple but hugely effective charge off button.... as mad as it sounds the simple fact is that if you cut the mains supply to the iPod the performance level increases! With Solo Movie, Music and Mini the supplied RS232 lead also gives you control from the Solo remote and display of all your tracks on the solo display! |
