meridian sooloos: a perfect match

Big news from the Meridian camp is their acquisition of New York based media server system manufacturer Sooloos. Their couldn't be a more perfect pairing with Meridian being the proven audio and video world leaders and Sooloos providing the slickest, highest quality server technology we have ever used. The combination is outstanding and threatens to finally start putting the nails in the coffin of poor old CD. Ironic really given that the 808.II Meridian CD Player is now widely being regarded as the best CD spinner on the planet!!!

Still, it's all excitement for us at Progressive AV HQ. Meridian Sooloos gives us a solution based around highest quality disk storage, multi-zone output either digitally to other Meridian Digital setups or analogue to Meridian CI amps and on to in-wall/ceiling speakers, and Sooloos own touch-screen controllers which absolutely have to be seen to be believed. Slick is just not a slippery enough word for ergonomic the interface is. Indeed, ergonomic is probably better suited...

meridian hd621 hdmi audio processor

After much waiting the HD621 is finally in production and first stocks are making their way over to Progressive AV. The HD621 is a 6 input HDMI switch with a little Meridian Magic Dust sprinkled on top to provide MMHR and SmartLink outputs for direct digital connection to your Meridian Digital Theatre. The device receives HDMI PCM audio decoded from the source and converts it over to MHR for connection to your Meridian system using 3 x SPDIF connectors. This means your DTS-HD and Dolby TrueHD soundtracks from Blu-Ray and HD-DVD will be delivered to your Meridian system at the highest possible standard with any lip-sync delay adjustment to keep it in sync with the video. Being Meridian this means it is not so basic as a simple PCM to SPDIF converter.... the tech heads at Meridian have been sure to make this the best it can be and as such the unit includes it's own FIFO buffering and resolution enhancement system which de-jitters the PCM signal for the most accurate possible playback of your HD Audio stream. The system is also capable of upsampling all channels to 96kHz and is able to actively reprocess 7.1 signals into 5.1 for connection to existing 6 channel SPDIF terminals!
